process and intention

While my approach to clay is primarily as a canvas, I strive to harmonize the surface design with the form. My work is functional and largely slab built, with a focus on surface embellishments – vivid underglazes and textures imprinted on, added to, and carved into the clay.
I use negative space as an active design element to provide a kind of structure for the colour composition to play in, and off of. My intention for each piece is to inspire joy, and invite visual and tactile exploration.
As I ride this iterative journey into the web of texture, negative and positive space, composition, and color, my craft improves, and the art shows me greater and more detailed glimpses of the why, what, and wherefore of this work. I invite you to tag along.
