process and intention
While my approach to clay is primarily as a canvas, I strive to harmonize the surface design with the form. My work is functional and largely slab built, with a focus on surface embellishments – vivid underglazes and textures imprinted on, added to, and carved into the clay.
I use negative space as an active design element to provide a kind of structure for the colour composition to play in, and off of. My intention for each piece is to inspire joy, and invite visual and tactile exploration.
As I ride this iterative journey into the web of texture, negative and positive space, composition, color – all of it, really – my craft improves, and the art shows me greater and more detailed glimpses of the why, what, wherefore of this work. I invite you to tag along.
